The Star Inn
The Star Inn
**Currently closed - reopening soon under new management **
Tucked away alongside a quiet country road between Romsey and Salisbury, the seventeenth-century Star Inn is a picture of pastoral Englishness. It holds pride of place in the Test Valley's smallest village, directly opposite the local cricket pitch (where games are played each week during the summer).
This is a favourite refuelling point for walkers, keen anglers and real ale buffs, who congregate for pints of locally brewed Ringwood beers and an excellent choice of upmarket food. Eat in the bar with its blazing fires and shelves stacked with books, relax in the neat dining room or sit outside on the patio (where you can indulge in a game of chess on a giant-sized board).
The kitchen produces British dishes including traditional classic pub comforts in the shape of steak and ale pie with mashed potato and wholetail scampi and chips. Elsewhere on the menu you might see starters such as smoked mackerel salad, or pate served with onion marmalade and toast. Main courses take in stuffed chicken, with either garlic mushroom and cream sauce, or an apricot and mild curry sauce, or if you prefer fish there's honey baked fresh salmon with a lemon dressing.
The Star Inn Features 3 bespoke bedrooms, all of which have been thoughtfully and individually designed in a traditional country inn style with crip bed linen, feather pillows and duvets, flat screen tv, hairdryers and organic toiletries.
